What is the purpose of the California Wild Horse and Burro Show?

Wild Horses Near Bishop, CA ©The 6W RanchTo promote the wild horse and burro adoption programs, to show the general public that these horses and burros are indeed worth our protection, that they do turn out to be a wonderful animal, and to enjoy the camaraderie of other wild horse and burro enthusiasts.

Are mustangs or burros that are bred in captivity eligible to compete in the show?

No. (please refer to our FAQ Page) The purpose of the show is to promote the adoptions of the excess numbers of wild horses and burros so that more drastic means of population controls do not have to be implemented.

Due to the economic upward spiral of fuel prices, the hardships the economy is causing, and CA BLM having informed the Tri-County Fairgrounds that they would not be attending the show with an adoption this year, the California Wild Horse and Burro Show for 2008 has been cancelled.
