FEATURED HOST PHOTOS
(2009-2010 Season)

The Second Day of a Short Three Day Season.

(Phil missed the opening "free ski" day, but got back in town for the
second day, Saturday, 17 October.   Unfortunately, employees
weren't allowed to ride the lifts;  so, it was necessary to
get up the hill the "old fashioned" way.)

Significant snowfall came early this year, but was followed immediately by high temperatures.
The Ski Area opened on 16 October with high hopes for further snow and cold weather,
but by the end of the third day of operations, fast-melting snow forced a closure.
(This photo, taken from Snow Creek, shows where the snow/rain boundary occurred.)

Main Lodge with Mammoth Mountain in the background.

It was 62 degrees at the Main Lodge super sign on Saturday afternoon.

The lift line at Chair No. 1 was nothing in comparison to the day before.

Looking up Broadway Run with the upper mountain in the background.

The middle portion of Broadway Run already had obstacles appearing.

The Drop Outs and Wipe Outs underneath Chair No. 23 were a little "sketchy."

Lunch on the sun deck was very popular at Main Lodge!

Cars were parked solid down to shuttle stop "B" and the parking shuttle was operating.

Pre-season lift maintenance was still being performed on chair No. 6.

The rain at Main Lodge had turned Anna's office into a flooded swamp.

Mt. Ritter and Banner Peak with the tops of Chairs No. 1 & 2 in the foreground.

Climax Run definitely is NOT ready for "prime time."

The Avalanche Chutes off Lincoln Mountain appeared realatively better.

My hiking buddy, Cody, peers down Avalanche Chute No. 2.

A closer look at what Cody was seeing.   It didn't look as good, as it did from below!

Standing at the top of Chair No. 22 and looking down Relief Run.

The Chair No. 5 area and top of Mammoth, as viewed from Lincoln Mountain.
Upper Solitude Run actually looks pretty good.

Looking across the middle portion of Solitude Run towards the top of Chair No. 3.

The lower portion of Solitude Run could be safely skied!

View of the top of Chair No. 9, Dave's Run, Chair No. 5 and top of Mammoth Mt.
This photo was taken from the "flats" behind the Goldrush Express off ramp.

Telephoto shot of Chair No. 1.   This photo was taken from the same spot as the last.

The top of Chair No. 5 was devoid of snow.   Note the fence that
was blown down on the extreme left of this photo.

As you can see from this photo, an entire section of the "new style"
snow fence has been blown down at the top of Chair No. 5.

A closer view of Dave's Run.

Cornice Bowl, as viewed through the notch between Climax and the top of Chair No. 3.

Looking down the Chair No. 16 tower line towards Canyon Lodge.

Red Tail Run had some Townsend's Hare tracks on it, but not much snow.

Looking up "Back for More" Run just below its split from "Repeat 22."

Looking across Gold Hill Run towards Dragon's Back.

A sideways view of the "Face of Three" above the cliff on skier's left of Dry Creek Run.

Looking down at the split between Avalanche Run and Downhill/Follow Me Runs.

Looking back up lower Avalanche Run into the setting sun.
The lift shack at the top of Chair No. 16 is just visible at the top of the run.
